With so much that changes day to day in Ukraine, our volunteers on the ground are vital in supporting SUWU’s mission and delivering life-saving food and supplies to vulnerable populations. One volunteer, Tatiana, works in villages on the frontlines, delivering essential supplies to those who have been left behind.

Many locals have evacuated their hometowns in areas along the war’s frontlines. These areas are under imminent threat from drones and missile strikes, and their supply chains have been severely disrupted. Sadly, many elderly residents have not been able to evacuate due to safety concerns and limited mobility, and they are unable to get food and basic necessities.

Tatiana has been volunteering for SUWU with her husband and two children in Dniepr since July 2022. She maintains a database of those who remain in these vulnerable areas, and she and her family deliver humanitarian aid packages containing food and household supplies to them. She works with around 50 families each week and calls them to confirm their needs. Her husband and son then purchase food and supplies for all 50 families, pack the boxes, and send them out. Tatiana then confirms receipt of the aid with a video of the family opening their package and shares that with the SUWU team.

Tatiana is a lifeline for those left behind, and she often has had to take on the role of a counselor, listening to the stories of those affected by war. In this, she offers solace and helps individuals process their emotions and traumas. It is heavy work– in one tragic story, Tatiana was told about a family whose aunt had stayed behind when they evacuated. She reached out about sending humanitarian aid to the aunt but had discovered that with no food, the woman had starved to death because it was too dangerous to leave her home.

This is one of many stories of civilians who have died or are suffering in this war. For Ukrainians in areas hit hardest by the war, work that is done by people like Tatiana and her family is critical and life-saving. In her work and sacrifice, she offers not only sustenance but also hope for people who need it most. Her family’s commitment to serving others in the face of danger is extraordinary, and we are so thankful to have her as part of the SUWU team.

100% of every dollar that is donated to Support Ukraine With Us goes to help those on the ground in Ukraine, providing aid packages, medicine, and other essential supplies. There is always a greater need for food and supplies than we are able to provide, and donations directly help us expand our reach to help suffering populations. If you are touched by the work of Tatiana and her family, please consider making a donation and spreading the word to your network. We have been able to provide life-saving food and supplies to thousands of families, and with your help, we can expand our reach and provide life-saving food and supplies to thousands more.
